Tooting has recently been voted one of the 10 coolest places in the world by the Lonely Planet. So we’ve visited, immersed ourselves in all there is going on and we’re here to report back.
Tooting Broadway is located on the Northern Line in South West London. It’s not ascetically the most beautiful when you come out of the tube station but don’t let that fool you. There is a lot more to Tooting than meets the eye. Its original authentic vibe is the main attraction.
Unwined is the quaintest wine bar that also serves food. It is located in Tooting Broadway market. The food is pop up style so there is a constant change in the menu. Wine is served by the glass and you also get a mini education about the wine you’re drinking from the talented and welcoming staff. An evening can be spent here chilling or visit on a Saturday when the hustle and bustle is in full swing.
Gone are the days when only your Granny went off to play a bit of Bingo. One of the best discoveries in Tooting is their Bingo Hall. It looks tacky and garish from the outside but inside it resembles a hidden cathedral of grandeur. Why not enjoy a lavish night at the Bingo. Get your glad rags on and place your bets.
The Little Bar
The Little Bar is exactly what it says it is, little. Some people are quite shocked when they stumble upon this bar as it does not appear to fit in with its surrounds. The cocktails and bar menu are impressive and the bar is independent and unique. The staff are welcoming and are happy to create a drink if what you want is not on their menu.
The Little Taperia
I would go as far to say that this is the best tapas in London. On entering The Little Taperia, you almost feel like you’ve entered the real deal in Barcelona. Their red wine and cocktails are delicious, the house red and cosmopolitan cocktail in particular. Oh and let’s not forget the patatas bravas.
The Castle Pub
This is a pub that has it all going on whether you want to have a casual drink and snack, a sit down meal or spend the day in a beer garden hut. There’s even the first big London bake off pop up tent in the garden. Sunday roasts at The Castle are also a major hit washed down with a little red wine!
Apollo Banana Leaf
People come from far and wide to visit this gem. This place does not look extremely alluring from the outside but once you’ve tasted the Sri Lankan cuisine, you’ll realise that you should never judge a book by its cover. The dishes at the Apollo Banana Leaf appear simple and the flavours will keep you coming back. You are encouraged to bring your own booze. If you’re looking for a curry to hit the spot, then look no further!
